Train schedule and tickets

There are several daily train services from Colombo to Ella, with different classes of tickets available. You can book tickets online through the Sri Lanka Railways website or buy them at the train station.

Duration

The train journey takes around 7-8 hours, so be prepared for a long journey. However, the views and experience are well worth it.

Class of travel

There are three classes of travel available on the train: First Class, Second Class, and Third Class. First Class has air-conditioned compartments and is the most comfortable but also the most expensive. Third Class is the cheapest option but has basic seating and can be crowded.

You can buy snacks and drinks from vendors who come through the train. However, it's a good idea to bring your own food and water as well.

Train Seats Reservation - Sri Lanka Railways

If you want to travel 1st Class AC train, you can select Denuwara Manike Intercity Express Train (1001 – Train) and pay the ticket price of LKR 1,600.00 (US $ 8.00). This train departed from the Colombo Fort Railway station at 06.30 am and arrived in Ella at 02.16 pm.
